Topic Title: The Ransomware Effect: Key Next Steps and How Cyber Insurance Can Help Respond
Abstract: This talk will provide an overview of recent attacker trends with a focus on how cyber insurance integrates with the technical incident response process. Attendees will gain insight into coverage available in the insurance marketplace, potential gaps in coverage, and best practices when filing claims.
Bio: John W. Ailes, VI is a Manager in Aon’s Stroz Friedberg Digital Forensics and Incident Response practice, where he leads and supports technical investigations into economically motivated cybercrime, state sponsored intrusion, and other forms of complex digital investigation. Mr. Ailes holds GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst, GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner, and GIAC Certified Reverse Engineering Malware certifications from the SANS Institute and a B.S. in Cyber Security Engineering from George Mason University.

Bio: Andrew is a Senior Broker for Aon’s Cyber Solutions E&O/Cyber Broking team in the Southwest Region. In this role, he is responsible for consulting with clients on their cyber, professional liability, technology, and media risks by identifying exposures, managing insurance market relationships, and strategizing and creating tailored risk transfer solutions, as well as executing on policy terms, conditions, and servicing. Andrew’s expertise includes offering holistic cyber risk management and insurance to help clients uncover and quantify cyber risks, protect critical assets, and recover from cyber incidents. Andrew graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting along with a minor in Economics.

Topic Title: The State of Ransomware
Abstract: The crime scene of ransomware is constantly adapting. We talk about the last six months from case data showing new evasions, extortion tactics, and the responses threat actors have taken since the law enforcement activities to Lockbit and other groups.
Bio: Tim leads the professional services business at Halcyon, focused on ransomware response and recovery. He’s spent 15 years in defense building SOCs, security programs, and service organizations.

Bio: Bob Hansmann has spent over three decades helping global enterprises and government agencies to uplift their threat prevention, detection, investigation, and response capabilities. Working in areas ranging from threat research and engineering to product management and marketing across his career, Mr. Hansmann has helped pioneer many of today’s security industry standards. This breadth of experience has given him a unique perspective on finding the optimal balance between security needs with an organization’s success criteria.

Topic Title: Legal Considerations for Ransom Payments and Cyber Insurance
Abstract: This presentation will explore the legal and strategic considerations when determining whether to engage with a threat actor, pay a ransom, and/or cooperate with law enforcement in connection with a breach. It will also touch on which costs might be covered by your insurance, and the importance of ensuring your preferred external partners are on your insurance panel before a breach happens.
Bio: Michelle is a privacy and cybersecurity attorney at Baker Botts LLP. She often counsels companies on U.S. privacy law compliance, incident preparation, incident response, and privacy- and security-related litigation and government investigations.
